The Beginning:

During the late summer of 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale, inspired by the desire and teaching of Kiwanis to broaden their scope of service, started a movement in the city of Burbank for the organization of a Kiwanis club.  Several representative men in the community were called together, and while the early records pertaining to the organization are quite vague, it is apparent that Harry Watson, A.C. Gage, Ted Covell and Robert Powell took the initiative in Burbank for the organization of this club.

Through the persistent efforts of these men under the guidance of the Glendale club and our beloved Frank Keene, the Burbank Kiwanis Club was formed, and on September 18, 1922, a committee was appointed, their duty assigned to them and they applied to International for a charter on the same day.

The charter membership consisted of fifty-three representative men of Burbank. The charter for the Burbank club was duly issued and on Friday evening, December 8, 1922, an elaborate charter party was held at the Palais Majestic, and Burbank Kiwanis made its official bow to the world.

After the organization and prior to the arrival of the charter, the club held several meetings, choosing the Elizabeth Hotel as the meeting place and Wednesday noon as the time.
